Light, Love" by each of the four composers Harvey, Poppe, Saariaho, and Nunes Wergo's "Edition Musikfabrik" series performed by Ensemble Musikfabrik. The ninth installment, "SCHERBEN (Fragments)," features works on the theme of "Light, Love" by four composers. Sringara Chaconne" by composer Jonathan Harvey, who is devoted to Hinduism and Buddhism, takes "Sringara" as its subject, a traditional Indian aesthetic that expresses the emotion of love. The intense energy of "Sringara," the love between people, between God and people, and the source of all Indian art, is set to music using the baroque musical form of "chaconne. Opening with a delicate sound reminiscent of impressionism, the piece gradually develops with increasing intensity, finally converging on a high note reminiscent of dazzling light.Enno Poppe's "Fragments" is an experimental work composed of 121 fragments, each consisting of about five seconds. As the composer says, "A soloist-ensemble composition like Musikfabrik is a symphony for the 21st century," the piece's unconventional instrumentation produces an appealing and strong sound presence. The music is a masterpiece of the musician's art. From the delicate timpani solos to the exclamations of the brass, the "fragments" of the music shine, collide, and melt together with a strong sense of individuality. Kaya Saariaho's "Notes on Light," a cello concerto in five movements (I Translucent Secret, II Burning, III Awakening, IV Eclipse, V Center of Light), is based on T.S. Eliot's poem, "Center of Light, Silence" between life and death, consciousness and unconsciousness.Like other Scandinavian composers, the Finnish composer's music is influenced by nature, such as the hues of light, and this piece, in which the cello takes a flexible and sometimes intense lead, is full of various textures of light, with her fantastic sound. Emanuel Nunes uses the word "kesed," which means "love and compassion" in the Kabbalah, the mystical philosophy that is part of the Jewish tradition. Nunes has long been interested in Jewish mystical thought, and when he received a commission, the last word of the Kabbalah text he was given was "Kesed," which he used as the basis for his instrumentation of four violins, four clarinets, two flutes, two violas, a cello, and three double basses. The imbalance of registers creates a strange sensation in this piece, which is rendered by an instrumentation based on the "numeral 4".Brought to life by the Ensemble Musikfabrik's vivid performances, the "Light and Love" of each of the four composers shines here.
