Master Cassar passes on his crystal-like tone in this collection of Schubert works by Philippe Cassar, a master of crystal-like tone. While composing Sonata D845, Schubert was composing his Lieder "Gravedigger's Nostalgia" D842. In this song, the piano part traces the melody of the song in unison with ornaments while singing the lyrics, "Abandoned by all things / and only connected to death / I stand at the edge of the grave / with the cross in my hand / and pour my longing gaze / into the depths of the grave pit. The pattern of the notes is the exact duplicate of the first theme of the first movement of Sonata D845. The Casar has a crystalline tone that echoes Schubert's melodic and rhythmic motifs, all in high spirits. In the waltz, his crisp tone is even more brilliant, conveying the charm of Schubert's little piece.
