Mozart (1756-1791)

Description:

Mozart by Faust & Melnikov! The first installment of the remarkable Mozart series by Faust and Melnikov is now available. The characters of each work are vividly depicted. The Mozart Sonata Series was also performed at Oji Hall in Tokyo in October 2017 and received rave reviews for its fine ensemble. This time, the combination is K.306 and 304, published in Paris in November 1778, and Mozart's last violin sonata K.526 (completed in 1787), written during the composition of Don Giovanni. The D major sonata, K.306, is a work in which the piano plays the dominant part, as is evident from the fact that the sonata is officially labeled "for piano and violin," but both Faust and Melnikov maintained a perfect balance and played equally, bringing out the full energy of the work. Faust's sobbing tone at the beginning of the famous E minor K.304 and Melnikov's solo in the second movement are undeniably beautiful. K.526 in A major is Mozart's last violin sonata. The slow movement in a dark minor between the two brilliantly propulsive movements is thought to have been composed in response to the news of the death of his friend Abel, who had been close to him in his boyhood. It is a substantial work that also employs a rigorous writing style reminiscent of Bach's.The beauty and precision of Faust's violin tone and technique, as well as the frightening expressiveness of Melnikov's fortepiano, and the excellent recording that beautifully captures all of the two musicians' performances are overwhelmingly impressive!
