With Quincy Jones as producer, this album secured Michael's position as a uniquely influential music star and uniquely forward-thinking and original creator at the age of just 20. Breaking all record sales records for a Black artist, the album ushered in a new era of excitement unprecedented in pop music history, where R&B and pop music crossed over in all aspects of (radio) airplay, charts, marketing, and scene trends.
