Muhlemann, Regula / Chaarts Chamber Arti

Description:

The critically acclaimed Mozart soprano Muehlemann invites you to the world of Fairy Tale. This is the fourth solo album by Regula Muehlemann, a highly acclaimed Mozart soprano who sang the role of Pamina in the new production of "The Magic Flute" at this year's Salzburg Festival. Inspired by the age-old fascination with fairies, nymphs, witches, and mythical creatures, she has teamed up with the outstanding performers of the Swiss ensemble CHAARTS to bring this unique concept to life. The music inspired by fairy tales spans nearly three and a half centuries, from Monteverdi's "The Lament of Nympha" to Britten's Shakespeare's "A Summer Night's Dream." These arias trace stories of love, hope, despair, and adventure, and Muehlemann is the guiding light of these tales. The orchestral parts have been arranged for a small chamber orchestra, and the musicians of CHAARTS have proven that difficult masterpieces can be performed by a small ensemble without losing their intensity.Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" inspired not only Britten but also Purcell's earlier "The Fairy Queen," whose most poignant lament, "Let me weep," is here sung as if lamenting expulsion from paradise (love), accompanied by instruments sighing. In Dvorak's "Rusalka" and Offenbach's "The Rhine Fairy," the water nymphs sing of longing and love in their enchanting voices. Muehlemann and the CHAARTS Chamber Artists are also devoted to the world of Nordic spirits. And that, of course, leads directly to the incidental music for Grieg and Ibsen's dramatic poem "Peer Gynt." Sony Music
