Rachel Willis-Sorensen's second album, featuring two masterpieces that convey the clarity of R. Strauss's later years. Andris Nelsons and the Gewandhaus Orchestra perform with Rachel Willis-Sorensen. Rachel Willis-Sorensen is an American soprano born in 1984. She studied voice at Brigham Young University and studied at the Houston Grand Opera Studio and with Drora Zajic. In 2014, she won the first prize in Domingo's Operalia Competition. With a wide repertoire ranging from Mozart to Wagner, she is a regular at opera houses in Europe and the U.S. In September 2019, she will make her Japan debut singing Marguerite in Gounod's "Faust" for the Royal Opera in Japan, replacing Sonya Jontseva. This album includes the famous song cycle "Four Last Songs," which seems to reflect the clear boundaries of Richard Strauss' last years, and the final scene of his last opera "Capriccio. Willis-Sorensen's luminous voice, impeccable technique and expressiveness have earned her the reputation as the perfect interpreter of Strauss's works, and "to the melancholic and lyrical music this soprano brought her dark, deep and singular tone.If a certain pitch-taking and a brilliant yet fragile sound recall the singing of Renée Fleming, this voice is closer to Wagner's singers, with the noble and seductive brown color of a middle voice" (Oryx, France). The Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig, conducted by Andris Nelsons, provides exquisite accompaniment, as only Nelsons, who has extensive experience at the opera house and knows the singers' breathing well, can, and the rich sonority of the famous Gewandhaus Orchestra adds the ultimate flower to this performance.
