In London, rumors of their performances have led to a series of sold-out shows, and in just one year since their formation, they have quickly established a reputation as "the hottest band in the UK underground music scene". Recently, the band performed at SXSW in the U.S. and throughout North America, where they were named the most notable act at SXSW and sold out their first two shows in New York City. Pitchfork has praised the band, calling them "eerily precise and stoic.Black Midi's music is post-punk, sometimes psychedelic, sometimes noise, sometimes progressive, sometimes indie, sometimes blues, and sometimes crossing the boundaries of genre, and is something completely new that cannot be described in any category.
