Description:
The "Complete Piano Sonatas," a bargain box containing Beethoven's "Piano Sonatas" and "Piano Concertos" recorded by Barenboim for the former EMI, is a famous performance by the young Barenboim from 1966 to 1969. The style is too romantic to be called a classical work, but the emotionally rich and wide range of expression is uniquely appealing. The free approach of this session recording is typical of Barenboim, who places great importance on the emotional impact of his music. Barenboim had previously completed a cycle of Beethoven's complete piano concertos as a pianist (with Klemperer conducting) and as a conductor (with Rubinstein at the piano). In 1985, he took on the challenge of recording Beethoven's complete piano concertos with the Berlin Philharmonic, a superb partner and conductor. The "Diabelli Variations," recorded for Erato in 1991, is a performance of extraordinary scale and content, which impressed listeners with its charms and overwhelming impressions. Warner Music Japan
