Ubet, a Brooklyn project by Nick Lovett. Released its debut album, Way To Be, on Sub Pop-affiliated Hardly Art. youbet, the Brooklyn project of songwriter Nick Llobet, will release its debut album, Way To Be, on Sub Pop-affiliated Hardly Art. All songs on the album were written by Nick Llobet and produced by Llobet himself. It was mixed by Adam Brisbin and mastered by Amar Lal at Macro Sound. Growing up in South Florida, Llobet learned to play guitar at an early age and dabbled in all genres, including classical, blues, classic rock, and flamenco. Eventually, Llobet moved to Brooklyn, where social anxiety and Imposter Syndrome consumed him, and he contemplated abandoning songwriting altogether. However, a chance encounter with Patti Smith led to Llobet's rebirth, both personally and artistically. He then began performing as youbet, a play on his last name.The album was then completed by meticulously reworking the lyrics, recordings, and arrangements of the songs that had been written, as Llobet describes, "It was an enormous labor-intensive job, like making a single movie. In the process, collaborators such as Julian Fader (Ava Luna), Adam Brisbin (Buck Meek), and Daniel Siles joined the work. The 12 songs on Way To Be obliquely explore dysfunctional relationships, regret, confidence or lack thereof, queerness, and self-discovery through wordplay and sarcastic humor. Fuzzy at the edges and full of playful and kinetic arrangements, this is a bridge into the enchanting world of youbet.
