The "Sinfonia of London" was founded in 1955 as a specialized orchestra for film music and recording sessions, and has been credited with its name on over 300 films and numerous recordings, but in 2018, John Wilson reunited the group and its virtuosity In 2018, John Wilson reunited the orchestra to showcase its virtuosity on its first revival album, Korngold's Symphony in F sharp (CHSA5220). The second album from the new "Sinfonia of London" explores the distinctive sounds of French orchestral works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.From such super-famous pieces as "Prelude to the Pastoral Afternoon" and "Meditation of Thais" to relatively rare works such as Duruflé's "Three Dances" and Saint-Saens' "The Spinning Wheel of Onfar," the orchestra captures the precise and delicate orchestrations that evoke the "exoticism" of Spain and North Africa with its own vivid expression.
