The Brodsky String Quartet is one of Britain's leading ensembles, having performed over 3,000 concerts on the world's major stages and released over 70 recordings since its formation in 1972. The Brodsky Quartet. The second quartet, celebrating its 50th anniversary with Laura van der Heijden, a young cellist of note who also performed with the quartet in Schubert's "String Quintet" (CHAN10978), is a collection of encore pieces. Laura van der Heijden was born in England in 1997 and made her debut at the age of 9. In recent years, she has appeared on stage at the Zurich Tonehalle in a duo with Fazil Sai and at the opening concert of the BBC Proms Australia with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andrew Davies. He is also a member of the Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective. This album features arrangements by Paul Cassidy and Jacqueline Thomas, both members of the ensemble since its inception, as well as a collection of fascinating encore pieces from their past repertoire and new arrangements.The result is truly a gem that speaks to the history of this bygone ensemble itself.
