Irish virtuoso Barry Douglas was the first non-Russian to win the gold medal in the piano category at the 8th International Tchaikovsky Competition since Cliburn in 1986. Douglas, who has completed six volumes of Brahms' complete works for solo piano with Chandos, a company he joined as a full-time artist, has received worldwide acclaim for his mature expression. Volume 3 includes "Piano Sonata No. 19," one of the three major sonatas of Schubert's later years, and the masterpiece "Musik und Geschichte," which was also performed in Japan during the "Ishikawa/Kanazawa Wind and Green Music Festival 2017". Two piano transcriptions from songs arranged by Franz Liszt are also a delight. Tokyo M-Plus
