The French master conductor Yann-Pascal Torturier, who left many masterpieces to Chandos when he was the Chief Conductor of the Ulster Orchestra (1989-1992) and the BBC Philharmonic (1992-2003). Torturier, who is currently Principal Conductor of the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra and Conductor Emeritus of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, makes his first appearance at Chandos in a long time! The new Torturier recording is a collection of orchestral works by Albert Roussel (1869-1937), a French composer who was a contemporary of Ravel and Debussy. Evocations," greatly influenced by his travels in India, is a magnificent choral symphony in which contralto, tenor, and baritone soloists are joined by a choir.Two young singers, Kathryn Rudge, selected as a 2017 BBC New Generation Artist, and Alessandro Fischer, First Prize winner at the 2016 Kathleen Ferrier Awards, are joined by a renowned baritone known for his many masterful performances and recordings of French opera, François Le Roux will join them as soloist. Torturier also recorded Roussel's ballet music (CHAN 9494) for Chandos in 1995, which was selected as one of the "1000 Greatest Classical Recordings 2011-12" by Penguin Guide, and has received high acclaim.
