He and Guerne will perform songs by Brahms, Wolf, Berg, Schumann, and Shostakovich in an impassioned, intuitive partnership. Schumann's Love of a Poet (1840) and Shostakovich's Suite on Verses of Michelangelo (1975) are 135 years apart, with other works by Brahms (1896), Wolf (1897), and Berg (1910) falling somewhere between the two.Composed extensively and magnificently by these famous composers, the five songs are inspired and elevated to new heights by a wonderful array of poetry: poems by Heine for Schumann, words from the "Lutheran Bible" for Brahms, and poems by Michelangelo for Wolf and Shostakovich.
