The Moving Melody of an Abandoned IslandLocated at the northernmost tip of the British Isles in Scotland, England, the island of St. Kilda is an archipelago formed by volcanic activity some 60 million years ago and is said to have the oldest volcanic remains in the world. It is said that St. Kilda is the oldest volcanic site in the world, The inhabitants had been living a self-sufficient life, but the development of the money economy and outbreaks of disease made life difficult, and in 1930, the government directed all the inhabitants to move to the Scottish mainland. Trevor Morrison, who lives in a care home in Edinburgh, was taught to play the piano as a child by a former resident of St. Kilda.Morrison miraculously remembered the song he was taught at that time and recorded it in 2008 as a record. The simple yet fantastically beautiful melody is moving. Upon hearing the music, composer James MacMillan was so moved that he decided to conduct a string orchestra and preserve the music. This recording includes Morrison's own performance and the performance conducted by MacMillan. This music should also be preserved as an important world heritage. Universal Music/IMS
