This is the debut album on Sony Classical by pianist Placidis Geneviève Hugg, born in Zurich in 1984. What’s more, she makes a grand debut right off the bat with a 3-CD set featuring Liszt’s piano transcriptions organized by theme. Geneviève Hugg began playing the piano at the age of five and studied under Theo Lehrch at the Zurich Conservatory. She received guidance from such distinguished pianists as Chesnack, Karl Engel, Weissenberg, and Zimmermann, and began to attract attention after winning music competitions in Hamburg and Switzerland. She is also known for her duet performances with her mother, a harpist. Liszt’s works are a specialty of Geneviève Hugg’s repertoire, and her performances have already received high praise from critics, who have described them as “unprecedented, brilliant virtuosity delivered with style,” “a performance brimming with the vigor and beauty of fireworks,” and “her music is like the rising sun.” Please enjoy the wonder and emotion conveyed by the many pieces featured across these three CDs.
