On The Breakdown, he explores marriage, death, and the human experience, revealing a more intimate worldview that sets this album apart from his previous work. This album shines a spotlight on Keb himself and his songwriting talent; with the exception of two tracks featuring guest vocals, the rest of the album focuses on Keb and his guitar, highlighting his true nature as a troubadour. The 10-track album was recorded at his home studio on the outskirts of Nashville and was written in the wake of life-saving open-heart surgery, the end of a nearly 20-year marriage, and a period of profound personal upheaval.
