Having released four critically acclaimed albums and earned two Grammy nominations for Best Dance/Electronic Album, the duo SylvanEsso—composed of Amelia Meese and Nick Samborn—is releasing their new album, *Ow∞*, on their own label, PsychicHotline. ●SylvanEsso is releasing *Ow∞*, their first album in four years and their first release on their own label, PsychicHotline. *Ow∞* is a “trust fall” into the dystopian present, past, and future—an act in which one person closes their eyes and falls backward, while a partner behind them catches them, deepening their mutual trust. In this context, they embrace the pain of cities submerged in water or engulfed in flames with open arms, absorbing it and reconstructing themselves through a tactile collage of memories, ephemeral moments, CDs burned during the Y2K era, and kisses in the backseat of a car. Produced by SylvanEsso members Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn, this album—which took the longest to produce in the band’s history—is delivered with a chaotic, hellish, yet free-spirited intensity and an intense immediacy. It transforms a life spent making music with others into art that one simply cannot help but love. Since 2022, *Ow∞*—which has been crafted, reimagined, and reexamined almost daily in the woods surrounding Betty’s, a studio in Chapel Hill, North Carolina—was born out of a period of ceaseless experimentation, improvisation, and collaboration. It is both a Technicolor totem symbolizing personal ruin and an ecstatic invitation to a party. Most of the tracks feature Meath’s first vocal takes, while the arrangements and ideas have been unearthed, enriched, and brought together by the largest group of musicians SylvanEsso has ever worked with on an album. In addition to a total of six drummers, the album features live performances on guitar, bass, keyboards, vibraphone, woodwinds, inner, organ, piano, and electronics, with Meath and Sanborn joined by Daniel Aged (Frank Ocean, Dijon), BJ Burton (Bon Iver, Charli XCX), Matt Douglas (The Mountain Goats), Glenn Kotche (Wilco), Jake Luppen (Hippo Campus, Samia), TJ Maiani (Weyes Blood, Neneh Cherry), James Mapley-Brittle (GRRL), Buddy Ross (Frank Ocean, Bon Iver), Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak, Flock of Dimes), and Joe Westerlund (Megafaun) all contribute throughout the album. The hard drive was packed with 5 to 10 songs at a time, some of which made the final cut and others that didn’t. Until everything eventually did, not everything was sacred. (1/2)
