The recording is by Paolo Pandolfo, professor of viola da gamba at the SCB since 1989, who succeeded Jordi Savall as professor of viola da gamba in 2023. Pandolfo, who will be touring Japan again in August 2024, will be featuring the music of Alfonso Ferrabosco II, one of the most successful composers of his time in England, who served as violist to the British royal family from the reign of Queen Elizabeth I through that of King Charles I. His father was a composer of the same name, Alfonso Ferrabosco II (his father was the composer of the same name, Alfonso Ferrabosco I).This collection, published in London in 1609, contains a total of 53 pieces for viola viol, a type of viola with resonant strings under the normal strings and nearly 60 tunings. 50 dances + 3 preludes, divided into 25 pairs, These are grouped according to three different tunings. As Pandolfo says, "The difference in sound that can be perceived when changing to a different tuning is astonishing," and the "revolutionaries" of the viola da gamba will reveal the fascination of the Lilla viol, which seems even like three different instruments, each with its own characteristics. The "revolutionary" of the viola da gamba reveals the fascination of the viola viol. Recorded October 9-13, 2023 at the Church of Saint-Rémy in Frans-Wallet, Belgium. Instrument:Pierre Bohr (Milan) made in 2021 (Tokyo M-Plus)
