The Italian vocal ensemble “La Venexiana” made its debut in Japan at “La Folle Journée au Japon 2009,” leaving a deep impression on Japanese audiences with its magnificent harmonies and outstanding presence. Having established itself as the definitive ensemble for Monteverdi’s “Madrigals”—beginning with their complete recording of the collection—and having consistently featured Monteverdi’s music, including the operas “Orfeo” and “The Moral and Religious Forest,” “La Venexiana” presents its latest release: a collection of short pieces *Musical Frolics*! Published in 1632 by Bartolomeo Manni in Venice, *Musical Frolics* seems to be nestled between Volumes 7 and 8 of the *Madrigal Collection*. The madrigals in *Musical Frolics* are characterized by a different scale and style compared to those in the *Madrigal Books*, featuring small ensembles—such as solo voices, duets, and basso continuo—as well as forms resembling arias and recitatives. The brilliant Cavina has reimagined the program by adding timeless masterpieces—such as *The Lament of Arianna*, which he arranged from Monteverdi’s original *The Musical Pastime*—to the lineup.
