Gabriella Diaz(Vn) Recorded April 8 and 11, 2022 at Mechanics Hall, Massachusetts [61:04]. Zwilich (Ellen Taafe Zwilich) is the first American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for composition. She first appeared on the music scene as a violinist with Stokowski's American Symphony Orchestra. She studied composition at the Juilliard School with Elliott Carter and Roger Sessions, and won the Pulitzer Prize for her First Symphony in 1982, after which her style shifted from the avant-garde style of her early years to a more accessible neo-romantic style.The works on this album are all post-transition, tonal, romantic music.
