STRANGE PASSAGE is a guitar band based in Boston and New York City that has been active in the US East Coast indie scene since its formation in 2016, and has garnered attention for its clear guitar sound reminiscent of FELT, THE FEELIES, and THE CHURCH, and songwriting that falls somewhere between post-punk and indie pop. The band has released an EP "SHINE AND SCATTER" and an album "SHOULDN'T BE TOO LONG" on SYNCRO SYSTEM RECORDS. While touring with current bands such as TONY MOLINA, DUMMY, EN ATTENDANT ANA, and CHAIN OF FLOWERS, the group has maintained its unique position, including its attitude of distancing itself from excessive social networking updates. Consisting of GREG WITZ on guitar, RICKY HARTMAN on drums, ANDREW JACKMAUH on bass, and RENATO MONTENEGRO on guitar/vocals, the group has the motorik beat of NEU! and the dry psychedelia of VELVET UNDERGROUND, The members are THE SPATULAS, INVISIBLE RAYS, MISSIONARY WORK, BUMMED and SAP, The members have played in a variety of East Coast bands such as THE SPATULAS, INVISIBLE RAYS, MISSIONARY WORK, BUMMED, SAP, AUSTERITY, MAGIC CIRCLE, and CUT THE SHIT, and their experience gives a natural range to the arrangements of each song. PALACE BEHIND THE SHADE" with its low reverb guitars and vertically aligned beat, "HOUR AND THE CHIME" with its open chord arpeggios and tight drums that create an uplifting repetition, "HUNTER'S FANCY" with its swirling bass riffs and sharp strokes that sound almost post-punk, "DAYLIGHT SAVINGS" with its constant drive and gradual changes in melody, reminiscent of NEU! The "HUNTER'S FANCY" with its swirling bass riffs and sharp strokes is more post-punk, "DAYLIGHT SAVINGS" with its melody changing little by little over a certain driving feeling reminiscent of NEU! GOLDEN RULE," which closes the album, the overlapping guitars and the restrained heat of the vocals quietly summarize the album's overall theme. The second chapter of STRANGE PASSAGE connects the repetitive grooves of NEU! and VELVET UNDERGROUND to the context of guitar pop inherited from FELT, THE FEELIES, and THE CHURCH, and oozes a contemporary Boston/New York atmosphere and political perspective. It is highly recommended not only to listeners who follow the current form of East Coast indie guitar bands, but also to those who are attracted to the 80's indie pop - post-punk revaluation trend.
