Villa-Lobos’s Last Hidden Masterpiece: A New Recording Puts Its True Value to the Test Composed the year before Villa-Lobos’s death, *The Forests of the Amazon*—his final major work—is a large-scale piece that includes vocal parts. Originally, Villa-Lobos composed the score for the 1959 film *The Green House* (directed by Mel Ferrer), starring Audrey Hepburn and Anthony Perkins; however, the film was a box-office flop. Disheartened by this, he reworked the material into a concert piece. This long-sought-after piece is now available in a highly anticipated new recording—and the fact that it’s performed by the São Paulo National Symphony Orchestra, his hometown ensemble, makes it all the more special. Although composed in his final years, the work is brimming with passion and vitality, and its nostalgic melodies and emotional depth are truly moving. King International
