Reconstructed concertos from the proven hand of Alessandro Ciccolini [Overview] - An album, including world premiere recordings, of Vivaldi concertos that survive only incompletely or were left at draft stage, stylishly reconstructed and completed by the Baroque specialist Alessandro Ciccolini. - Ciccolini's achievement in bringing the fragments of "lost Vivaldi" back to life has been widely praised: this is far more than scholarly reconstruction, for he breathes Vivaldi's own vitality into the music. - Also well worth hearing are the flowing ornamentation of Tommaso Rossi's flute playing and the outstanding virtuosity of Graziadio's bassoon – the technique and expressive range of the bassoon writing in RV 482 is little short of astonishing. [The Programme] - All are rare concertos and fragments which, despite carrying RV (Ryom) numbers, have been largely overlooked on record; in most cases parts or whole movements are missing from Vivaldi's autographs. Ciccolini, who prepares the critical editions of Vivaldi published by Bärenreiter and Boosey & Hawkes, has reconstructed them using Vivaldi's own idiom and the conventions of the period. A leading Vivaldi scholar, he gained international recognition for his reconstructions of Vivaldi operas performed under Alan Curtis. - Tommaso Rossi (flute/recorder): a fine player based in Naples, artistic director of the Associazione Alessandro Scarlatti and professor at the Naples Conservatory. - Giovanni Battista Graziadio (bassoon): trained at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and a specialist in the fagottino (small bassoon). - Compagnia de Violini: the period-instrument ensemble founded by Ciccolini.
