A full-length album featuring the harp ukulele, curated and arranged by guitarist Hirokazu Ogura with a diverse selection of songs. This is “kaleidoscope music”—a blend of classical, ethnic, and pop genres. This solo album was recorded using the demo version of the “Tsukinami” model harp ukulele, designed and supervised by Yasunori Hiramitsu, one of Japan’s leading luthier. [A Message from MoonMusic] Hirokazu Ogura It was 2012. I had been invited to participate in the “Ukulele Picnic in Hawaii” event, to be held the following year at Kakaako Waterfront Park on Oahu, and just as I was thinking about my set list, I happened to come across an instrument called the harp ukulele. Captivated by its unique sound and appearance—even though I knew nothing about its tuning or how to play it—I decided to get one because I wanted to perform it on stage in Hawaii. Now, it plays an active role not only in my own performances but in a variety of other settings as well. Encouraged by the very positive feedback from everyone who has heard me play the harp ukulele, I decided to compile its sound into a single album. The album alternates between solo harp ukulele pieces and collaborations with other instruments on a track-by-track basis. I performed the solo pieces at a free tempo. Since I wasn’t using a metronome, I was able to record while deeply feeling the instrument’s dynamic range and the resonance produced by its small body. This contrast with the collaborative tracks made the album more colorful overall, and I feel the result turned out well. The album features six original songs and three covers. Whether you listen casually or intently, whether you’re going to sleep or waking up, or while driving or commuting by train, please try using it as background music for your surroundings. Moon Music.
