The complete Beethoven works of Isai Q are now available! Formed in 1984 by students of the Paris Conservatoire, the Ysaye Quartet captivated music fans around the world for almost 30 years until its dissolution in January 2014, with numerous recordings and concerts mainly for Decca. Now they present a live recording of the complete Beethoven string quartet concert they gave at the Musée d'Orsay in 2008. Only some of the performances (Nos. 3, 10, and 16) were released on their own label, Ysaye Records, in 2013, but those recordings are now hard to find, so the release of the complete works on CD is a great pleasure. The quartet has been highly acclaimed for its Mozart, Haydn, French works, and contemporaries, but Beethoven's quartet series was the most important repertoire for the quartet in the last phase of its career. The quartet's charms can be fully appreciated here: the aggressive yet deep musicianship of the members at their peak of maturity, the tension and unity that only a live performance can provide, and the flawless technique of the musicians.Naxos Japan, with Japanese commentary
