Description:
This is the seventh in a series of recordings by German tenor Fritz Wunderlich (1930-1966) for SWR broadcasts. This time it is a collection of German lieder, the essence of his singing. Schumann's "Love of a Poet," which is synonymous with Wunderlich, was recorded in 1965. The same work by Wunderlich and Giesen has a famous November recording in Munich, but this is a May recording in Switzerland, where we can hear the lyrical singing that begins with "In a beautiful May". CD 1 includes a recording of Wunderlich singing in 1955, giving us a sense of the ten years of her short life as a singer of unparalleled renown. Naxos Japan
