Toro y Mowa, a project by Chaz Bear based in the Bay Area of South Carolina, has released *Mahar*, his seventh album and his first release on Dead Oceans. ● Guests: Alan Palomo (Neon Indian), Luban Neilson (Unknown Mortal Orchestra), The Mattsson 2, Sophie Royer Chaz Bear, also known as ToroyMoi, is releasing his new album *MAHAL* via Dead Oceans. Featuring 13 tracks, this marks his seventh album under the ToroyMoi moniker. *MAHAL* follows the 2019 album *OuterPeace*—which Pitchfork called “one of his best albums in recent years”—and the collaboration with Flume, “The Difference,” which was featured in Apple’s global AirPods campaign and earned a Grammy nomination. and marks his first release on Dead Oceans. *MAHAL* represents Chaz Bear’s most daring and captivating journey to date. Spanning the fuzzy psychedelic rock of the ’60s and ’70s to the modern post-rock of the ’90s, the sound transcends genre and sonic boundaries, creating a listening experience that feels like riding in the back of the Philippine-made jeepney featured on the album cover. *MAHAL* is quintessentially ToroyMoi—returning to his past work while blazing a new trail in Bear’s own unique way. The album was completed last year at Bear’s studio in Oakland, involving numerous collaborators such as Sofie Royer, Ruban Neilson (Unknown Mortal Orchestra), Alan Palomo (Neon Indian), and Mattson2. “I wanted to make a record that featured more musicians than any other record I’ve made,” Bear explains.
