New West Records is proud to present new versions of Olney's songs, recorded by a stellar roster of artists including Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Willis Alan Ramsey, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Mary Gauthier, Jim LaLaurie, Jim LaLaurie, and Jim Gauthier. Gauthier, Jim Lauderdale, and Buddy Miller will release Can't Steal My Fire: The Songs of David Olney, an album featuring new versions of David Olney's songs recorded by Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, Willis Alan Ramsey, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Mary Gauthier, Jim Lauderdale, Buddy Miller, and others. The album also includes previously unreleased live recordings by Townes Van Zandt.Originally from Rhode Island, Olney moved to Nashville in the early 70's where he met songwriters such as Townes Van Zandt, John Hiatt, Steve Earle, Guy Clark, and Rodney Crowell. He also toured extensively with his rock band, David Olney and the X-Rays, and has since released a string of excellent albums. His songs were recorded by Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Del McCoury, Linda Ronstadt, and many others. However, the bright light of stardom never shone on Olney, and he passed away while singing on stage at a club far from his hometown, where he lived his life. This album brings together Olney's friends and colleagues to pay tribute to his unique vision. Many of the participating artists, each a legend in his own right, are on this album out of deep admiration and respect for the man David Olney and his songs.
