Legendary footage of Knappertsbusch, one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century, who was appointed music director of the Bavarian State Opera in 1922, performed with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra for the first time at the Salzburg Festival in 1929, and went through many other changes after that, including supporting the Bayreuth Festival after World War II, He has left a significant mark on the postwar music world. This film is a combination of two years of his and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's special concerts at the Theater an der Wien, and offers a unique interpretation of Wagner and Beethoven. The unusual atmosphere of the Beethoven with Backhaus as soloist is particularly famous, but it is also noteworthy that Hiroyuki Iwashiro, who had just made his European debut as an up-and-coming conductor at the time, was seated in the audience. As for Knappertsbusch's performance, nothing more needs to be said.
