Reiner Ziperling is a member of the 18th Century Orchestra and a founding member of the Camerata Cologne, and is a renowned viola da gamba player in the Netherlands. Following "J.S. Bach: Viola da gamba sonatas (AE10206)" and "La chemise blanche - Couperin & Folklé (AE10266)", this release on Aeolus features the outstanding viola da gamba works of the French Baroque, which have been compared to the "angelic Marais" and the "devilish Folklé". The release on Aeolus is a collection of works by outstanding viola da gamba players of the French Baroque, compared to the "angelic Marais" and the "devilish Folklé". The elegant and harmonious Marais suite is beautifully contrasted with the Folklé suite, which reaches the limits of the instrument with its dark tone, and a bonus track is an arrangement of the famous rondeau "La Folklé" by the late French Baroque harpsichord master Jacques Dufry.Harpsichord performance is by Peter-Jan Belder, a renowned Dutch harpsichordist who has worked with the 18th Century Orchestra, the Dutch Bach Society, Collegium Vokale Ghent, and the Jesuald Consort.
