A collection of works by Jeanne Leroux (1898-1979), winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1923, whose talent was recognized by Ravel! Jeanne Leroux (1898-1979) was the third woman to win this prize, following Lily Boulanger and Marguerite Canal. She was introduced to music by her parents at an early age, then studied at the Conservatory in Rennes, where she quickly began to show her talent. She studied piano with Marguerite Long, and at the age of 11 was chosen to be one of the first performers in Ravel's "Ma mère roi". A piano virtuoso, she was featured in the local press for her wonderful performance of Chopin's Etudes at the Conservatory's 1908 concert for students who had achieved distinction. An accomplished composer, she wrote many masterpieces, songs, chamber music, ballets, and symphonies. Her works were performed at the Paris Opera and by the most important orchestras of the time, and were unanimously acclaimed by her peers and critics. This first volume, dedicated to the works of her youth, allows the listener to rediscover an important and unjustly forgotten figure in 20th century music. King International
