Description:

Final volume of "Mozart: The Complete Sonatas" by the Canadian pianist known as the goddess of the keyboard, 2 CD set. The final volume of "Mozart: The Complete Piano Sonatas," the 50th album on the Hyperion label by one of the world's leading pianists, Canadian-born Angela Hewitt, is the first release from Universal Music. 2 CD set. It includes No. 16, familiar to piano students around the world, as well as "Twelve Variations on 'Oh, Mother, Listen' (Twinkle, Twinkle, Twinkle Variations)" and Mozart's last sonata, No. 18. Hewitt has made an enormous number of recordings for Hyperion, including complete solo keyboard works by J.S. Bach and Beethoven, and has been called a "keyboard goddess. For these achievements, she was inducted into the Gramophone Hall of Honor in 2015. Angela Hewitt began playing piano at the age of three and gave her first recital at the Royal Conservatory of Toronto at the age of nine.He then studied with French pianist Jean-Paul Sevilla at the University of Ottawa and began his international career by winning the Toronto International Bach Piano Competition in 1985. He has performed in the world's most prestigious concert halls, including New York's Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House, and has appeared at many prominent music festivals, including Lucerne, Verbier, Osaka, Prague, Lincoln Center, and the BBC Proms. He has given recitals throughout Europe, the Americas, and Asia, and has performed with major orchestras. In Umbria, Italy, he holds the "Trasimeno Music Festival" every summer, of which he is the artistic director. Hewitt was named "one of the glories of our time in recording history" for her recordings of all of Bach's major keyboard works, and in 2020 she became the first woman to receive the Bach Medal of the city of Leipzig, awarded to outstanding performers of Bach's works. and in 2015 she received the Companion of the Order of Canada. In addition, in 2018, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts from the Governor General of Canada, and in 2020 he was awarded the Wigmore Medal in recognition of his more than 35 years of service with Wigmore Hall in London. From 2016 to 2020, Hewitt undertook a project entitled "The Bach Odyssey. This was a grand plan to perform all of J.S. Bach's keyboard works in 12 recitals over a four-year period at venues around the world, including Wigmore Hall in London, Kioi Hall in Tokyo, and the 92nd Street Y in New York City. Hewitt is "the world's most balanced chord ...... If you're looking for Mozart from an Apollonian perspective, with a flawless appearance and perfect balance, Hewitt is the ideal pianist." -- "Gramophone" magazine Universal Music/IMS
