To honor his illustrious musical life, a collection of recital recordings made for Philips is being released in this 11-CD box set. Horostovsky won the BBC Cardiff International Vocal Competition in 1989 and immediately became a new star of the opera world. Handsome, charismatic, and with a remarkably beautiful voice, he had the artistry and charm to bring audiences to their feet. And indeed, for the next quarter of a century, his career was abruptly cut short when he was diagnosed with cancer, and he sadly passed away in 2017 at the age of 55. Yet the Siberian baritone's dedication to his recital repertoire and his determination to bring the Russian Romance genre of his native land to audiences around the world, both in concert and on recordings, were outstanding among his contemporaries. Even though he could fill a soccer stadium with his operatic medleys, he chose to sing songs of spring floods and dark nights to smaller recital audiences. And he recorded much of this repertoire for Philips.This year, the fifth anniversary of his death, this is a collection of recordings from the 1990s, Holostovsky's heyday, dedicated to his memory.
