Description:
100th anniversary project of Switner's birth. First SACD release of his first opera recording, "Late Palace," recorded in stereo in 1961. The soft and beautiful sound quality is also a must! Mastered only in the analog domain and converted directly to DSD! The 24th SACD hybrid version of the latest reissue project of ETERNA's original analog tapes in Japan, the first SACD reissue of Switner's (1922.5.16-2010.1.8) famous Mozart recording, "Escape from the Hermitage", his first opera recording (session), and the first SACD reissue of the complete works. Although it was recorded in 1960, the year after he became General Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Dresden Opera and Staatskapelle Dresden, the natural flow of the music, one of Switner's later characteristics, can already be felt throughout the album. The performance is superb, with a natural flow of music that is already one of Switner's later characteristics. Although he was only 39 years old at the time of recording, he was already able to bring out the finest sound from a traditional orchestra with singers of about the same age, and it is hard to believe that this is his first recording of an opera. Jutta Vulpius' exquisite singing as Konstanze, who was mainly active at the Berlin State Opera, is also excellent and adds to this recording. The sound quality is solid even for an early ETERNA stereo recording, and even this latest reissue does not sound old. The solid recording is largely due to the engineer C. Streuben, and it is amazing that the sound quality remains so clear even after more than 60 years. The singing and narration are in separate casts in this recording (as indicated in the commentary). For this reissue, the master tapes were flown from the label to the studio of Vienna-based mastering engineer Christoph Stickel, where they were mastered in the analog domain and digitized separately in DSD for the SACD layer and PCM for the CD layer. The project was then digitized into a product. This project was mastered in the most ideal way conceivable today. The effect is remarkable: it is now possible to reproduce the quality left on the master tapes with extreme fidelity, and the mastering and direct DSD conversion in the analog domain only has even greater sonic benefits. The result is a performance that is so clear and resolved compared to its predecessor that one can expect to appreciate the performance even more. The manual also includes a color photo of the outer box of the original analog master tape used in this project.
