Kim Oki's 2016 album, THE GREAT ROOT, is now available on LP! Saxophonist Kim Oki, active mainly in the Korean jazz scene, releases his album "The Great Root" (2016) on LP. Inspired by Korean poet Kim Su-young's poem "The Great Root," Kim Oki's proposal for the album was released in 2016 as the third installment of BEATBALL MUSIC's "21st Century Jazz Classics Series" jazz recording project. For the LP version, new artwork was created by Spanish artist Luis Toledo (Luis Toledo). Noteworthy is the participation of multi-instrumentalist/composer Park Ji-ha, known for his releases on the Hamburg-based world music label Glitterbeat, on taepyongso (an instrument similar to a chimera) and pili (a wind instrument similar to a Japanese flute). The acoustic performance with percussion/flute/double bass gives the impression of sounding to create a bewitching mood rather than an emotional expression.In this sense, the album has a strong taste of Park Ji-ha's solo work, and it is one of the most avant-garde albums in Kim Oki's discography. Most of the songs are instrumental, but Ji-Ha Park contributes vocals on M1 "Love.
