A major work by Emily Howard commissioned for the 200th anniversary of "The Massacre at Peterloo!" This album features two works by award-winning British composer Emily Howard, who is deeply fascinated by the poetry found in mathematical forms and processes, in collaboration with poet Michael Symons Roberts. The Anvil" was commissioned by BBC Radio 3 and the Manchester International Music Festival to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre, the suppression of a popular rally in St. Peter's Field, Manchester, in 1819 to demand electoral law reform. baritone soloists, and four choirs, along with the BBC Philharmonic, are immensely powerful in this work.
