MELOCLASSIC has unearthed a live recording of Jacqueline du Pré! Her only appearance at the Salzburg Festival on August 4, 1968 was a legendary performance of Dvorak's Cello Concerto. Both du Pré and Mehta were on fire, and the audience cheered loudly after the performance. Another treasure is Britten's Cello Sonata. Although there was a partial recording made in February 1965, this may be the first appearance of the complete work. Another treasure is Bach's Sonata for viola da gamba and harpsichord, BWV 1029, played by cello and piano. Du Pré has few recordings of Bach to begin with, so this is a long-awaited one just to come out in its entirety. Schumann's concerto and fantasy collection are both emotionally rich, making them perfect for du Pré. The Ettlingen recital is also grateful to have Stephen Kovacevich, a renowned pianist in his own right, at accompaniment piano. Tobu Shoji Co.
