On the FUELEDBYRAMEN label, which made a particularly dazzling impact on the 2000s rock scene, The Academy Is...—led by vocalist William Beckett and featuring a lineup of equally striking looks—gained popularity primarily among teenagers in the U.S. and U.K. thanks to their stage presence, honed through tour after tour. Twenty years after its release, their debut album *ALMOSTHERE*—which Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz fell in love with—is being reissued on a baby blue vinyl LP! ■The FUELEDBYRAMEN label was a standout presence in the 2000s rock scene. Among its acts, The Academy Is...—a five-piece band from Hoffman Estates, a suburb of Chicago—gained popularity primarily among teenagers in the U.S. and U.K. thanks to their polished stage presence, honed through tour after tour since their debut, led by vocalist William Beckett and featuring a lineup of good-looking members. Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz fell in love with the band and introduced them to the label, leading to their signing with FUELEDBYRAMEN. Here in Japan, they made their debut appearance at PUNKSPRING '06, and quickly garnered attention by performing at Summer Sonic '07 the following year and the Decaydance Festival in 2008. Now, more than 20 years after its release, their debut album, *ALMOSTHERE*, is being reissued as a baby blue vinyl LP. ■Released in 2005, *ALMOSTHERE* is an album whose greatest appeal lies in its sound—which draws from classic rock while showcasing a catchy pop sensibility—and William Beckett’s relatable lyrics. It was produced by James Paul Wisner, who also worked on Paramore’s *ALL WE KNOW IS FALLING*. The album reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums Chart and sold over 250,000 copies across the U.S. Singles released from the album included “Checkmarks,” “The Phase That Pays,” and “Slow Down,” and their music videos generated significant buzz. The album also features “Classifieds,” a track that remains a crowd favorite at live shows.
