This is the first of a collection of organ pieces consisting of Preludes and Fugues in A minor, BWV 543, the same in C minor, BWV 549, and 46 pieces (45 if you exclude BWV 634, a different manuscript), 26 pieces (BWV 599 - BWV 624). The Troitmann organ, one of the most important surviving instruments of the Bach era, was built and installed in St. Georg's Church in Grauhof near Goslar, Germany, between 1734 and 1737, and has since been restored and remains faithful to its original state, and its sound can still be heard today. It is known for its outstanding quality.
