The virtuoso cellist Portela, who is also the cellist of Trio Zimmermann, performs Haydn's Cello Concerto and Hindemith's "Funeral Music"! Christian Portela was born in Zurich in 1977. He studied with Heinrich Schiff in Salzburg and Vienna. He is known as a virtuoso chamber musician who has performed with world-class artists such as Gidon Kremer, Henning Klagelud, and Mitsuko Uchida, and has also released many discs as a soloist. Haydn is said to have composed a total of six cello concertos, but due to loss and suspected forgeries, only two of them are known to exist today. Today, it is one of the essential cello concertos in the repertoire. The second concerto, on the other hand, is a masterpiece with an elegant atmosphere that fully brings out the charm of the cello. The second movement of Symphony No. 13, "Adagio," is a beautiful movement in which the solo cello plays a major role.Portela plays the charming melody written by Haydn with great elongation. The coupling is Hindemith's "Funeral Music. Hindemith wrote this work in haste to mourn the passing of King George V of England.
