The coupling Ives is also noteworthy.SACD Hybrid Edition. The Escher String Quartet, an American quartet based in New York City, recorded Barber and Ives, a composer from their home country! Barber's String Quartet in B minor was written in 1936, when Barber was 26 years old. Barber's own arrangement of the second movement of this work, "Adagio for Strings," for string ensemble, is well known, and now the original string quartet has been recorded. The dynamic melody and rhythm of this piece are reminiscent of Beethoven's String Quartet No. 1 and No. 11 "Serioso". This recording also includes the first draft version of the last movement. The original version of the final movement is also included in this recording, and it is a work full of the young Barber's thoughts and feelings. Together with Ives' String Quartet and Scherzo, this recording offers the string quartet works of one of the most famous American composers of the 20th century. King International
