Quanz began working with Frederick as his flute teacher in 1728 during Frederick’s time in Dresden, when Frederick was 16 years old. In 1741, the year after Frederick ascended the throne, Quanz joined the Prussian court and served the Great King for 32 years until his death, even accompanying him to military encampments during wartime. His basic annual salary was 2,000 thalers, approximately seven times that of C.P.E.
