Marina Tarasova, a cellist born in Moscow in 1960, has won international competitions in Prague, Florence, and Paris, and was a prize winner at the International Tchaikovsky Competition. She is one of Russia's leading cellists and has been praised by Frennikov and Rozhestvensky. This new recording by Tarasova, who has grown more mature with age, is a collection of Russian cello sonatas, the quintessential example of her extremely wide repertoire, which has featured many Russian composers. Rare sonatas by Yuriy Levitin and Vladimir Komarov were recorded for the first time in the world. Please enjoy the still unknown depth of Russian cello. Only Komarov's Concerto Poem, dedicated to Rostropovich, was recorded in 1989 with the Russian State Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Emin Khachaturian (nephew of Aram Khachaturian).
