Jansons has always expressed his enthusiasm for Mahler, saying, "I want to offer you something special, something that will surely exceed your expectations. The scherzo is a magnificent display of these beautiful qualities of the orchestra.The "powerful movement" was exactly as the instructions indicated, and one could not help but lean forward to the endlessly overflowing song and vibrant rhythms as they were demonstrated.
