Description:

Another masterpiece with the VPO, Motzlek, is reissued in the 50th anniversary of Kertesz's death. The ideal performance with the excellent vocalists such as Amerling. Excellent recording of the performance. Three songs are coupled in the margins. Includes bilingual lyrics. The latest reissue from the original analog master tapes in the original country for this release. As the basis of the world's first SA-CD release on the 50th anniversary of his death, three pieces from Mozart's "Requiem" recorded by Kertesz with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1965 and "Freemason Music" recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1968 are newly coupled and released on SACD for the first time in the world. This is the world's first SACD reissue. Kertesz has also recorded Mozart's symphonies with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (already released on CD as PROC1979 in a 3-CD set on Tower CD in 2016), Schubert's complete symphonies (also released as PROC2029 in a 4-CD set in 2019), and Brahms' complete symphonies (released as PROC1975 in the first volume of this SACD hybrid project in 2016). PROC 1975, reissued in 2016), and the debut recording of "The New World" (PROC 2398, the 33rd release of this SACD hybrid project). It must have been quite a feat for a young conductor in his 30s to record the "Requiem" with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, which at that time was expected to be a big seller in the DECCA catalog, but as a result, the performance with Kertesz, who has a sincere attitude toward the work, a passion for music, a specialty in opera, and an ability to play games with the singers and chorus, was very effective. The result is a performance that clearly shows that the performance with Kertesz, who was good at opera and knew how to play with singers and chorus, had a positive effect on the Vienna Philharmonic as well. At the time of recording, Kertesz had already worked with the Vienna Philharmonic on some of the aforementioned works, so the bond between the two was probably even stronger. The DECCA recording, with its clear details and realistic sound, brings out the music of Mozart's genius in rich detail, along with the beautiful vocalists including Amerling. The latest reissue of the recording demonstrates the true value of DSD, which has always had a high sound quality, even for vocal music. Although the coupling piece differs in concept from the original "Requiem," three pieces of music including vocal music are included in this reissue. The "Freemason's Tunes" itself is so rare that it is hard to imagine any other source for the album. While it is unclear how Kertesz and the production team came to create this album, Kertesz's attitude toward the work remains the same, and the fact that the orchestra has changed and is the London Symphony Orchestra also makes for an interesting performance, although the sound quality is completely different. While the third piece, "Funeral Music for Freemasons" without voices, has been included in the "Requiem" on the commercial CDs, this reissue couples two other vocal works that were included on the original album. Despite the rarity of these works, you will enjoy the effect of the SACD conversion. (1/2)
