Produced for the 1939 New York World's Fair, the film was written by urban planner Lewis Mumford for the narrator, directed by Ralph Steiner and Willard van Dyck, and with music by Aaron Copland. The music is especially wonderful. The music, in particular, was so good that it was hailed by the Los Angeles Times as "a remarkable missing link between American music and Copland's style. In this video, you will enjoy two types of footage, one using the original soundtrack of the time, and the other combining the newly performed fresh music.
