Description:

Furtwängler & BPO, two great performances from the Great War, now reissued on the first 2-track, 38 cm, open-reel tape! Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 (Hansen) + Symphony No. 7■From the ProducerThe live performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 (Solo: Konrad Hansen) and Symphony No. 7 by Furtwängler and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra during the Great War needs no more explanation. These two pieces are being reissued for the first time in this series from two-track, 38 cm open-reel tapes. These days, it is common practice not only to eliminate the noise of the venue, but also to reduce even the noise associated with the performance (e.g., shoe noise, music-turning, breath-holding, etc.). This may be one way of thinking, but the GS series does not remove anything other than electrical noises that seriously interfere with the appreciation of the music, and everything that happened on that day is considered as music, and the mastering process respects the information inscribed on the tape. Note that the two bars at the beginning of the fourth movement of Symphony No. 7 are missing from the original recording, but the tape used for the reissue has been repaired. These two bars seem to be non-Furtwänglerian, but they do not sound that unnatural, so we have left them as they are (many discs make up for this omission with a copy of the development, but this treatment is not entirely correct either, since it is not what the score sounds like). Also, there are various theories on the date of recording, but the most common one is used here. (Naoya Hirabayashi) King International Inc.
