Description:
Beethoven(1770-1827):. Contents 1. overture "Leonore" No.3, Op.72a Symphony No.5 in C minor, Op.67 "Fate Performers Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks Leonard Bernstein(Conductor) Recorded live at the Deutsches Museum Congress Saal, Munich, October 17, 1976 Total recording time: 49 min. Leonard Bernstein conducted the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra for the first time at a charity concert for the international human rights NGO Amnesty International in October 1976. The program was an all-Beethoven performance, especially Symphony No. 5, which some fans consider the best of Bernstein's recordings of the same work. It was truly impressive to see the orchestra soaring with a majestic pace under Bernstein's baton. The renowned music critic Joachim Kaiser said of this performance, "Beethoven was full of freedom and fire, and Bernstein was filled with Beethoven and brought that freedom and fire back to life. The Munich audience may have found Bernstein's jumping, stooping, and crescendos wild, but the music, natural, powerful, surprising, and yet relaxed, did justice to the inner workings of the piece and was overwhelming," wrote the author. The concert was previously released on CD by Deutsche Grammophon, and now, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, it has been reissued on CD from the original masters. The concert also featured the Piano Concerto No. 4 with Claudio Arrau as soloist, which is not included on this CD. Listening to Schumann's 2nd (BR-KLASSIK), Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde" (Philips→Decca), and Mozart's Requiem (DG), it seems that the orchestra with which Bernstein could express his feelings most unreservedly was the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks. The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra was the orchestra with which Bernstein could express his feelings most freely. This is a valuable recording in terms of their memorable encounter. (Naxos Japan)
