Description:

Exquisite interpretation of the festive music of the Louis XIV era at the forefront of the French classical music scene! The "Te Deum" by the 17th century French great composer Charpentier is famous for the "Trumpet Prelude" that is played as the theme music for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's New Year's Concert broadcast every New Year's Day. In France during the reign of Louis XIV, the composer wrote many "Te Deum" pieces as psalms of praise to color the splendor of festive celebrations. Its popularity first reached its peak in early 1687, when Louis XIV's recovery from illness was celebrated throughout the kingdom (Lully, the royal music director general, died on this occasion as a result of an accident while conducting his own "Te Deum"). In addition to Charpentier's masterpiece, which is believed to have been performed at that time as well, this recording also includes the "Te Deum of Lyons" performed by Louis XV, the successor to the old king, when he received Queen Marie Leszczinska in 1725.The composer, Demaret, who has been in the spotlight since his youth as the heir to the masterful art of Lully, a leading figure in French royal music, was forced to live in exile for a long time due to personal problems, and this work was composed at the court in Lorraine, far from the royal palace. The conductor, Bestion de Cambra, who makes full use of the richly accented sound of Baroque wind instruments and conveys the exquisiteness and splendor of French music with his slow and abrupt sound production, has made great strides in the ancient music scene in recent years and has many recordings on ALPHA. The French-speaking members of the ensemble, which also includes such next-generation musicians as Bosnian Branislav Rakic and Japan's Minoru Deguchi, are able to convey the full appeal of the works through their rich expression and beautiful harmonies and the passion and unity of the vocalists.
